TotalEnergies Receives National Safety Leadership Award for 16 Years LTI-Free Operations on AKPO FPSO

TotalEnergies Nigeria was recently awarded an award for National Safety Leadership by the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE)—the Safety Division of The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)—in recognition of its exceptional achievement of 16 consecutive years of Lost Time Injury (LTI)-Free operations on the AKPO Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility.

The milestone, regarded as one of the most significant safety achievements in Nigeria’s offshore oil and gas industry, was celebrated during the NISafetyE Fellowship Conferment ceremony held in July 2025.

The event was attended by distinguished leaders, including former Ogun State Governor and serving Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, FNSE, FNISafetyE, Engr (Prince) Biodun Oyedepo, FNSE, FNISafetyE Pioneer National Chairman of NISafetyE, and Engr Funmilade Akingbagbohun, FNSE, Immediate Past National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, among other industry luminaries.

Receiving the award on behalf of TotalEnergies’ management, Engr. Victor Bandele, FNSE, Deputy Managing Director, described the recognition as both an honour and a renewed mandate to sustain and deepen the company’s culture of safety excellence.

In an additional historic gesture, members of the company’s executive leadership were also conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, underscoring both institutional and individual commitment to operational integrity and safety innovation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Seun Faluyi, FNSE, FNISafetyE, National Chairman of NISafetyE, commended the company’s long-standing commitment to safety, stating:

“Sixteen years without a single Lost Time Injury on a complex, high-risk offshore asset like the AKPO FPSO is a rare feat globally. It shows what is possible when engineering, leadership, and safety systems work together with discipline and commitment.”

The award serves as a national affirmation of TotalEnergies’ leadership in safety performance and its role in raising the standard of operational excellence across Nigeria’s high-risk industries.

It is also proof of what excellence looks like.
It is a national benchmark.
It is a message to all operators in high-risk industries that world-class safety performance is not only achievable—it is sustainable.

Congratulations to TotalEnergies.
Congratulations to Nigeria’s engineering and safety community.
And congratulations to every professional who continues to raise the bar for safety in Africa’s energy sector.
